Exquisite Corpse no. 1
Omar Malik & Paul Newsam
Unprecedented windfall – a beached whale. Its body was yielding to the sky. The vanguard from a kettling crowd touched down. The preople were coming in droves, their arms reaching toward the shore. Had their prayers been heard? I asked myself, thinking about the chance that brought this whale out of the sea. It was enough for weeks—months even—if only it lasted. And then I saw it: The rot. The body was festering from the inside out. The meat was useless to them. An approaching woman stopped; a bird dived down to feast. I wanted to shout…but nothing.
