Hungry Hungry Hypocrites
+ Based on "Highwayman" by Jimmy Webb, Glen Campbell, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings, and J.R. Cash.
I was a Forester,
Along the skid trails I did ride,
Saw and Biltmore by my side.
Many an old growth shed her timbers to high grades.
I tried to fix all the mistakes our fathers made.
The wind overtook me in the Burn of 1910,
And in four score fell again.
I was a Fisherman,
I was born upon the tide.
By the sea I did abide.
Chased the bluefin 'round the horn of Mexico.
Japan'd beat me there; there was nowhere left to go.
And when the Perfect Storm hit, they say that I was killed,
But I am living still.
I was a Farmer,
And I hunted on the side!
By the land I did abide.
I grew my corn and cocoa, nuts and avocados,
Enough to share with newfound neighbors on the coast.
They took it for themselves and pushed me further West,
But I will never rest.
I was a Bridgebuilder,
'Cross the rivers deep and wide,
Where steel and water did collide,
A place called Selma, arcing the Alabama flow.
They beat and pushed me into the rushing time below.
They buried me in that great tomb that knows no sound,
But I am still around....
I'll always be around.
I fly a Starship,
'Cross the Universe divide,
And when I reach the other side,
I'll find a place to rest my spirit if I can.
Perhaps I may become a Forester again.
Or I may simply be a single drop of rain.
But I will remain....
And I'll be back again.
